 Inquirers' Class Curriculum

Week 1: “Our Stories and THE Story”

This first session begins with a getting-to-know-you time, followed by an introduction to how Presbyterians view Scripture.

Week 2: “Roots and Shoots”
A quick romp through 2,000 years of Church history based upon an introduction to The Book of Confessions, the first part of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
Week 3: “Worship as a Verb - Why We Do What We Do in Worship”

Reformed worship practices, looking at a typical worship service using the model of Søren Kierkegaard which describes worship as a great drama; worship as something we do not something we attend.

Week 4: “Who’s Who and What Do They Do?”

Introduction to our Presbyterian form of government, including the roles of elders, deacons, and trustees; a review of some ideas that are near and dear to Presbyterian hearts.

Week 5: “Finding Your Niche”

Introduction to the many ministries of First Presbyterian Church, both within and beyond the congregation; exploring the concept of stewardship of time, talent, and treasure.

Week 6: “Welcome to the Family”

A chance to meet the Education and Music Staff; an explanation of the congregation’s Parish Life Program; reception into membership by the Session of those Inquirers who have decided to unite with the congregation.

Meeting the Congregation

New Members are introduced to the congregationduring either the 8:30 or 11:00 worship service on the Sunday following their reception into membership by the Session.
